Veteran Hong Kong Actress, Suet Nay, Passes Away at 78

Veteran Hong Kong actress, Suet Nay (雪妮), has passed away at 78 on July 3, 2025. The news comes a day after the passing of another veteran Hong Kong actor, Chow Chung, who was Suet Nay’s co-star in the 1999 TVB series, “At the Threshold of an Era (創世紀)”. Suet Nay and Chow Chung portrayed the parents to Gallen Lo’s character.

On July 4, Suet Nay’s family announced Suet Nay had passed away from pancreatic cancer at the hospital where she was being treated. They also made announcements about the funerals for Suet Nay and her late husband, Chia Tang (唐佳), who had passed away on June 23, at 88.

Suet Nay and Chia Tang were married for 56 years and had two sons. Chia Tang, a renowned martial arts choreographer, jumped off a building as it was rumored he was unhappy about Suet Nay’s illness and wanted to die with her.

Suet Nay is touted as the first female action star. She got her start in the 60s at 17 in Hong Kong cinema. Her claim to fame was starring as “Fa Mulan” in the 1966 movie, “The Legend of Wonder Lady” (女黑俠木蘭花). At her peak, Suet Nay filmed over 40 films in 7 years. After marrying Chia Tang, Suet Nay retired in 1969 to raise a family. It wasn’t until 1997 that Suet Nay made a comeback signing with TVB.

It was said when Suet Nay made her comeback, Chia Tang, who was already retired at the time, would often accompany her and bring her soup and other daily necessities. Chia Tang once referred to himself as her helper, while Suet Nay referred to him as her bodyguard, manager, and helper.

In May 2020, Suet Nay left TVB after 23 years with the company and announced her retirement. The 2021 series, “Story of Zom-B (食腦喪B)”, was the last series she acted in with and “The Righteous Fists (鐵拳英雄)” was the last series of hers that aired.
