Yang Yang is currently promoting his latest series, “The Immortal Ascension” (凡人修仙传), which received many praises and is performing well. This is Yang Yang’s first series that aired in 2 years since 2023’s “Fireworks of My Heart” (我的人间烟火). However, there is a reason why Yang Yang hasn’t been gracing the audience with his presence that much in the last two years.

In a recent interview, Yang Yang talked about some of the challenges he faced as an actor. He got candid and said, “I didn’t really appear that much in front of the audience the past two years because…” Yang Yang pauses and talks to someone from his team off camera, “It’s okay if we talk about it. Face it bravely, right?”. Yang Yang continues saying, “I actually haven’t appeared much in the audience’s field of vision the past two years because there were some characters that the audience felt didn’t have good results. I also felt everyone didn’t really like me during that time. So I appeared less in front of everyone and earnestly tried other roles and play them well.”

While Yang Yang didn’t mention what roles or dramas that caused this, many fans and even netizens immediately thought of his role as a firefighter, “Song Yan”, in 2023’s “Fireworks of My Heart”. When the series aired, Yang Yang and the drama received a lot of hate and criticism. Yang Yang’s performance was called “greasy” by netizens and many said the storyline made no sense. While netizens are known to notoriously leave bad ratings on Douban, “Fireworks of My Heart” got 2.7 stars out of 10 on the site.
