It looks like someone forgot the memo on “Refute a Rumor Day”, which took place in China on January 22, 2021. This was the day when 30 celebrities had to come out and debunk, shut down, deny, or refute rumors that started out of nowhere. Only one rumor was confirmed to be true that day.
On January 25, a bizarre rumor was circulating that Eddie Peng (彭于晏) and Danson Tang (唐禹哲) were going to come out of the closet together. The rumor said, “Eddie Peng and Danson Tang will be coming out of the closet together. Eddie Peng will post it first. He pursued Danson Tang. Danson Tang will repost it. The text will probably be like ‘Hope everyone congratulates us.'”
Eddie Peng’s studio debunked the rumors in the wee hours of January 26, saying, “#EddiePeng #DansonTang It’s fake!” and that they would be pursuing legal action against the perpetrators. Eddie Peng also denied the rumors shortly afterwards, saying, “Fake, stupid, lame.” Danson Tang’s studio also issued a statement saying the rumors circulating online are false.
The people starting the rumors randomly put two names together. Had they done their research, they would’ve known Danson Tang announced his relationship in June 2020 with his hapa model actress girlfriend, Becky Su (蘇小軒), who is 13 years his junior.
I thought she looked familiar, but wow, I actually haven’t seen Xiao-Xuan Su since Love Cuisine. Brings back memories… Had no idea she was a hapa though
