Simon Gong Jun (龚俊) served as the guest mentor on the 8th episode of “CHUANG 2021” (创造营 2021) that aired on April 10. This was the third public performance that invited female mentors to collaborate with the trainees. When Gong Jun was introduced, he said he wasn’t good at singing or dancing, but he went to CHUANG to learn. So when Deng Chao (邓超) asked him if he were to form a boy group who would he do it with, Gong Jun said, “If I were to form a boy group, I think the person who’s most compatible with me must be Zhang-laoshi.” While the subtitles say “Zhang Zhehan” (张哲瀚), Gong Jun actually referred to him as “laoshi” (teacher).
After the first group’s performance, “Push No.5 for Cute in Input Method” led by Ju Jingyi, they can choose one mentor to give them compliments based on the card chosen. The group decided on Gong Jun and Ju Jingyi (鞠婧祎) selected the card that had the mentor sing their praise about the group’s performance. Gong Jun is known for his “interesting” singing skills, especially “Aini Wuhu”. So of course he had to rise to the occasion.
Gong Jun also said he was especially rooting for a trainee because Zhang Zhehan sent him a small red packet on WeChat the previous night. Gong Jun called out Wu Yuheng (吴宇恒) and said, “I’ll root for Wu Yuheng. I wish you can continue to go all out.” However, Gong Jun also showed support for the rest of the group and said he voted for everyone.
Zhang Zhehan and Gong Jun are actually from the same company. When Wu Yuheng was first announced to be a trainee on the show, Zhang Zhehan recorded a message to show him support. So it only made sense for Zhang Zhehan’s “Lao Gong” to rally votes for Wu Yuheng. It seemed to have work because Wu Yuheng’s group ended up winning the MVP for best team and Nine also ended up as the MVP trainee.
Gong Jun blowing up like this makes me wonder how popular Word of Honor is in China
