Former Big Bang Member, Seungri, Sentenced to Three Years in Prison on Nine Charges

After a two and a half year case, former Big Bang member, Seungri’s trial reached a verdict on August 12. Seungri was found guilty of nine charges. He was sentenced to three years in prison and remanded to police custody at the scene. He was also fined 1,156,900,000 won.

He was found guilty of nine charges involving prostitution, arranging sex transactions, sexual assault crimes such as illegal filming and more, money laundering, embezzlement, violation of food safety laws, frequent gambling, violation of international trade laws, and abetting attacks with 9 suspects.

The courts said Seungri denied most of the charges, but found his testimony kept changing and was inconsistent throughout the investigation and trial. They also stated Seungri had tried to blame the charges on others and didn’t seem to have reflected on his behavior. Seungri’s former business partner, Yoo In-suk, had previously pled guilty to similar charges for arranging sex transactions for investors and more.

Seungri was set to be discharged from the military next month.

  1. I’m surprised he’s getting jail time but three years is too short for what he took part in. Waiting for the investigations to be completed took longer than the actual sentence they gave him. If he was sentenced back then, he would be free already.
