While Chinese idol survival shows have been banned by the government since 2021, they have been very popular in Taiwan for the past few years. Following its predecessors, “Dancing Diamond 52” and “Atom Boyz”, Taiwan’s next major survival show will be featuring female trainees called, “NEXT GIRLZ” (未來少女).
They released the first teaser video of the trainees dancing back in January, which featured Linlin (粼粼), a former member of K-Pop girl group, Cherry Bullet, as the center. On April 4, the show’s official Youtube channel uploaded the first dance performance video featuring Linlin.
Linlin, who originally hails from Taiwan, debuted as a member of Cherry Bullet on January 2019. However, she terminated her contract with the group’s agency, FNC, and left the group in December 2019 due to personal reasons. Linlin was also a contestant on the 2022 YOUKU dance show, “GREAT DANCE CREW” (了不起!舞社).
Aside from Linlin, other familiar trainees competing on the show include Dicky Sin or Tik Kei Sin, a Hong Kong member of AKB48 Team TP, former “Youth With You 2” contestant, Chen Pin-Hsuan aka. J.U, Purple (Li Ziyan) from Taiwanese girl group, PER6IX. It’s reported the youngest trainee is only 13 years old.
The show is set to start filming and air in April. James Chan (詹仁雄), the tv show producer responsible for hit shows like “Kangxi is Coming”, “Guess Guess Guess”, “Dancing Diamond 52”, “Atom Boyz”, said “NEXT GIRLZ” will be different from its predecessors in that the debut group will be determined by audience voting.
