After Rocket Girls 101 disbanded in June, Meng Meiqi’s (孟美岐) first variety show was “Masked Dance King” (蒙面舞王), where masked dancers compete against other dancers. The show consisted mostly of idols like THE9’s Liu Yuxin (刘雨昕) and An Qi (安崎), NEXT’s Ding Zeren (丁泽仁, UNINE’s Yao Bonan (姚柏南), UNIQ’s Zhou Yixuan (周艺轩), and more. One of the highlights of the show was seeing Rocket Girls 101’s center, Meng Meiqi, and THE9’s center, Liu Yixin, battling against each other.
In a recent interview with Sina, the interviewer mentioned there were a lot of online discussions surrounding “Meng Meiqi and Li Yuxin battle”. Meng Meiqi was asked if she minded about the comparisons between her and Liu Yuxin on “Masked Dance King”. She responded, “I really don’t like being compared. I think everyone is unique. Everyone will have their own outstanding attributes. Why must it be used to compare who is good or bad?”
The interviewer responds to her saying that in the entertainment industry, it has talking points, it’s a gimmick. Meng Meiqi agrees with her and says, “So I actually don’t really understand this. That’s why when Yuxin and I were battling on the show, we are actually not trying to express who needs to win against who. This shouldn’t be used for comparisons. Because everyone who reaches to the finals and you say who is good or bad? There is no [comparison] about who’s good or bad. Everyone is just devoting their passion on this stage by using the simplest method, which is dancing. Using their best and most diligent work to present it to everyone. I think this is something that can fulfill us.”
