Back in March 2020, YOUKU announced they would be producing the third installment of “The Honey Trilogy”, “Love When the Stars Fall” (星落凝成糖), which is an adaptation of the novel with the same name. This adaptation is said to be last episode of “The Honey Trilogy” preceded by the hit series, “Ashes of Love”(香蜜沉沉烬如霜), followed by “Skate Into Love” (冰糖炖雪梨).
While none of the storylines are connected, “Love When the Stars Fall” was being touted as a sequel to “Ashes of Love”. Andy Liu, the producer of “Ashes of Love”, responded to fans back in April 2020 that he was trying to get Allen Deng Lun and Yang Zi to star in “Love When the Stars Fall”. However, he expressed that scheduling was the biggest obstacle as Yang Zi was booked up until the first quarter of 2021.
There were no updates about the series until July 17, 2021. Andy Liu revealed they had already started filming “Love When the Stars Fall”. However, he only showed pictures of the blessing ceremony. The cast wasn’t announced either.
Then on September 28, 2021, Jiangsu TV announced at their investors’ conference that Chen Xingxu (陈星旭) and Li Landi (李兰迪) were cast as the leads in “Love When the Stars Fall”. YOUKU didn’t make any announcement about the casting so it’s unclear if they are still involved in the series.
The novel talks about a pair of princesses in the human world. The older sister is gentle and kind and is betrothed to the god clan as a heavenly concubine. The younger sister is clever and cunning and is betrothed to the demon clan as a demon concubine. Due to an unexpected mix up, the two sisters were sent to the wrong clans. This creates countless laughters and two beautiful love stories.
