Hong Kong actress, Kathy Chow (周海媚), has passed away at 57 on December 11. The news was confirmed by her work studio on December 12, which revealed that Kathy Chow had passed away on December 11 due to an illness. Her team didn’t reveal the details of her illness.

Rumors started going viral on Weibo about Kathy Chow’s death on December 11. Sina Entertainment had reached out to Kathy Chow’s staff member to verify the news, which was met with hung up calls. Later on, someone in the know claimed Kathy Chow was currently in the hospital getting treated and in a coma.

There were also rumors that Kathy Chow suffered from lupus. However, Kathy Chow had clarified that she didn’t have lupus, but suffered from low blood platelets, which had led to her ailments.

The news of Kathy Chow’s sudden passing had shocked the entertainment industry. Many of Kathy Chow’s past co-stars mourned her passing. Kathy Chow’s ex-husband and actor, Ray Lui (呂良偉), remembered Kathy Chow by saying, “Hearing this news, I couldn’t calm down for a long time. Thank you for bringing so much beauty to this world. Wishing you to continue laughing in another world.”

Kathy Chow had just celebrated her 57th birthday on December 6. While she didn’t place in the top 3 at the 1985 Miss Hong Kong pageant, she eventually joined TVB and became one of the most iconic actresses from the 80’s and 90’s of Hong Kong cinema. In recent years, Kathy Chow had relocated to Beijing and primarily worked in mainland China.
