Aside from the surprise “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” wins, TVB outdone themselves this year with the supporting actor and actress categories. Mandy Lam, who rose to fame through her character as Linda Ling in “Come Home Love – Lo and Behold,” finally won the award for “Best Actress in a Supporting Role.” The actress was nominated last year for the same role, but lost out to Rebecca Zhu. As for “Best Actor in a Supporting Role,” it was a bit of shock for Oscar Leung as he wasn’t a hot favorite to win. He won for his role in the audience favorite, “OMG, Your Honour.”

In Mandy Lam’s speech, she thanks the executives and producers for the opportunities in her 18 year career. She says, “I remember 7 years ago, I had a serious illness. I remember thinking to myself at that time, what else can I do? It was Ms. Lok who called me and told me not to worry. I want to thank Sister Sandy and Sister Pam for giving me a job when I needed it the most. This award doesn’t belong just to me, but to the whole cast and crew of “Come Home Love – Lo and Behold,” no matter the characters or script, it is the best.”
Mandy started out as a contestant in the 2000 Miss Hong Kong pageant. in 2010, Mandy Lam was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. She undergone multiple surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy. Thankfully, her boyfriend at the time and now husband, Tommy, stayed by her side. Tommy, who loves kids, didn’t mind that it would be difficult for Mandy Lam to have children due to the side effects of the medicine and treatment. The two married finally tied the knot in 2013.
As for Oscar Leung, he was emotional and trying hard to keep back the tears when his name was called. In his speech, he said, “Had I known I was getting an award, I would’ve gotten my makeup and hair done by stylists. I prepared everything myself today. I have to give big thanks to TVB for cultivating me for 14 years. A lot happened a few years ago. It was a big challenge for me. I am thankful for my friends supporting me and talking to me. Thanks to Ms. Lok and Sandy for giving me work when I was so confused. I want to say to my wife, I love you. Without her reminding me, supporting me, I wouldn’t be able to stand on this sage. Thanks to my parents, my daughter, my brother, and my good brothers.
The next surprise at this year’s show was the “Most Improved Female Artist” category, which was awarded to Crystal Fung. While the 2016 Miss Hong Kong winner hasn’t filmed many series, she is mostly in the headlines for her daring comments and “MK personality.” Her dress and hair style was a much better choice this time than the TVB anniversary gala last month.
Crystal Fung starts off with a joke that she didn’t think she would get an award and was going to head for the restroom after the award was presented. She is grateful to TVB, but is quite blunt and admits that she doesn’t think she deserves this award yet.
Matthew Ho won the “Most Improved Male Artist” and his acceptance speech was very ordinary, but what wasn’t so ordinary was his rumored girlfriend, Rebecca Zhu, rushing to give him a hug when he was passing by the actresses to get his award.
