It’s pageant season this time of the year. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, TVB has decided to proceed with the pageant this year. TVB had actually canceled the pageant in early April, but a few weeks later, they decided to resurrect the competition into an online reality show. The Miss Hong Kong 2020 (2020香港小姐競選) pageant recently started its first round of auditions virtually and in person. As usual, this is the most interesting part of the process as viewers get to see all kinds of candidates auditioning. One candidate in particular got a lot of interest because of her wealthy background and friendships with celebrities.

Jocelyn Choi graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (香港中文大學) with an English degree. She also enjoys doing yoga, Thai boxing, dancing, and knows French. She is currently an actress not signed to a company. She has done theater before and filmed commercials. Last year, she played Anita Yuen’s (袁詠儀) daughter in the movie, “A Home with a View” (家和萬事驚). In order to commemorate her first movie role, her father held a private viewing party.
When she was asked about her identity, “4 Billion Daughter”, Jocelyn Choi responded she wasn’t sure about the amount. In an interview with hk01.com, Jocelyn Choi expressed she isn’t trying to get into the entertainment industry by joining the pageant. She feels she has already entered this industry and feels the pageant as a challenge and test for herself. Talking about her background, Jocelyn Choi said she felt unhappy about the public talking about it. She expressed, “That’s why I’ve been working hard trying to get work and audition opportunities. I don’t want people to know my background.”
After growing up, she became mature and understood this was just a part of her identity. She realized she shouldn’t feel ashamed because of others’ criticism. She expressed, “I want to learn to be just like the Ho family’s daughter, Miss Laurinda Ho (何超蓮), generous, proper, and confident. That’s why the current me is very accepting of this identity of mine. I would also feel proud because of my grandfather and father. If it was the me from a few years ago, I would feel this background would make others feel prejudiced against me. I would be very unhappy. I’d feel that no one would see my efforts. But I’ve realized this identity of mine has given me a talking point. It is indeed my advantage.”
A lot of netizens felt Jocelyn Choi resembled Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) and Priscilla Wong (黃翠如). Jocelyn Choi revealed that people have said she looked like the both of them starting from middle school. She said, “Friends would joke and say I am the mini version of Linda Chung because there is at least 15 cm difference in height.” Jocelyn Choi is 157 cm tall and she was even asked about her height during her audition. She expressed that each girl has different qualities and owns up to her height.
