After a one year hiatus, season 2 of “PRODUCE 101 JAPAN” debuted on April 8, 2021. Before the first episode aired, the trainees ranked from 61-101 were already eliminated. So the first episode only featured 60 trainees for the placement portion.

The live finale aired on June 13 and debuted 11 member boy group, INI. The name was chosen by fans. Unlike its Chinese and Korean counterparts, the group is permanent. The group name is pronounced “I-N-I” and means: “The 11 of us (me:I) who met on PRODUCE 101 JAPAN SEASON2 connect (Network) with you (I)”
