Eddie Kwan’s (關禮傑) daughter, Fabienne Kwan (關楓馨), was a heavy favorite to place top 3 in the Miss Hong Kong 2021 pageant. Unfortunately, she only placed in the top 5. After the pageant was over, Eddie Kwan was seen immediately leaving the scene. Fabienne Kwan addressed this by saying that he was most likely rushing home to help her celebrate it.
On September 18, Eddie Kwan was interviewed about Fabienne Kwan’s performance at the pageant. He expressed, “As her father, if she got an award, it’s a form of encouragement. If there isn’t any, then treat it as a part of growing up. You ask me if I would be disappointed. Of course there is some disappointment, but there isn’t anymore. This experience will actually help her grow up because if life is this smooth, when you run into obstacles and failures in the future, it’ll be easy to fall. This is actually a good thing.”
While Fabienne Kwan conceded her lost by saying she didn’t perform well during the Q&A segment and said Sabrina Mendes was the rightful winner, many netizens felt her loss was due to her having a tattoo, which she covered up. However, Eddie Kwan had a different opinion. He said, “I actually don’t think it’s related because I think it’s different now compare to the past. Tattoos are a form of art now. In fact, a lot of big celebrities have tattoos. So I don’t think tattoos are a disadvantage nor would I say having a tattoo is bad. I believe the pageant emphasizes on having both beauty and wisdom.”
Eddie Kwan revealed Fabienne Kwan will be signing with TVB while managing her vegetarian dessert business. When asked if he was looking forward to working with his daughter, Eddie Kwan said he wants to try it and jokingly said they can even portray a couple.
