Mnet’s “Girls Planet 999” came to end on October 22. The live finale debuted a 9 member girl group that they’ve been touting to be a mix of “Korean-Chinese-Japanese” members. After the let down of the group name, Kep1er, which is pronounced Kepler, the line up was also just as disappointing.
The final point evaluation was a combination of the final round of voting that ended on October 22 and the second round of voting, which took place during the live show with each vote worth double the points.
Aside from the weird and overlong zoom-in shots of trainees and the planet masters, the announcement of the top 9 was painstakingly long and uneventful. They started with P8 and when it came down to P1 and P2, Yeo Jingoo announced the two candidates.
- KIM CHAEHYUN (K)
- HUENING BAHIYYIH (K)
- CHOI YUJIN (K)
- KIM DAYEON (K)
- SEO YOUNGEUN (K)
- KANG YESEO (K)
- EZAKI HIKARU (J)
- SAKAMOTO MASHIRO (J)
- SHEN XIAOTING (C)
The final line up of Kep1er consisted of 6 Korean members, 2 Japanese members, and 1 Chinese member, in that order.
Shen Xiaoting’s ranking at 9th left many people puzzled as she was consistently in first for almost all the rankings. However, when the voting went from voting for cells to one pick, Shen Xiaoting dropped from 1st to 16th during the interim ranking that was released a few days prior to the finale.
While it might not have been promised that the final group would contain 3 members from each country, Mnet was hyping up the 9-9-9 formation
The group’s contract will last for 2.5 years.
