If you haven’t seen the clip already, poor Puff (郭雪芙) was on stage with her co-announcer presenting an award at the 58th Asia Pacific Film Festival. The clip shows Puff starting to read the announcement card and then she abruptly paused when it came to the winner’s name. What ensued was an awkward back and forth with her co-announcer on who was going to announce the winner. Check out the awkward video here.

After the incident went viral, Puff got lambasted as netizens criticized her for not knowing English as the winner was Malaysian movie “Interchange”. The situation got out of hand and prompted Puff to clarify what really happened.
On a Chinese variety show, Puff explained she was really nervous that night. Once she opened the envelope, she was expecting the winning film’s name to be listed visibly. However, she saw a bunch of English and Chinese words mixed together making her flustered and not being able to find the winner’s name. After that awkward banter with her co-announcer, she finally discovered the name in the last row, clarifying that it wasn’t because she didn’t know how to pronounce it.
I hope this dies down quickly. Puff got so much hate and flack for it. If you watch the clip, she was able to pronounce it easily in the end. It was definitely a case of the jitters.
