Young and Dangerous Gang Reunite for New Film

Young and Dangerous Gang Reunite for New Film

If you grew up in the 90’s, also the peak of the Hong Kong entertainment industry, then you should know of the “Young and Dangerous”《古惑仔》movie franchise.  The movies, based on a Hong Kong comic book about Hong Kong triads, catapulted the careers of Ekin Cheng, Jordan Chan, Gigi Lai, Michael Tse, and other secondary characters to stardom.  The realness and emotions of the stories created a cult following amongst fans that still remember the iconic movies and characters today.

While the theme in the movies were always about loyalty and brotherhood amongst Hong Kong triads, off-screen, the main actors also became brothers since the first movie was released over twenty years ago.  After the last Young and Dangerous movie was released in 2000, the core group of Hung Hing brothers haven’t reunited on screen* until now.

Ekin Cheng and Stanley Cheung Could Pass for Brothers

In their new movie, “Golden Job” (黃金兄弟) (watch the trailer here), it stars the core group of Hung Hing boys, Ekin Cheng, Jordan Chan, Michael Tse, Jerry Lamb, and Chin Ka Lok in new characters with a similar theme about brotherhood.  Who is notably present for many years is Jason Chu, who played “Banana Peel” (巢皮).  Why are they excluding him?!

While the series spawned countless remakes, copycats, and spin-offs, Ekin Cheng will always be the long haired gangster, “Brother Ho Nam” (陳浩南) and Jordan Chan will always be the perverse and foul-mouthed “Chicken” (山雞).
