After the success of the “Produce 101” series idol trainee competitions throughout Asia, Taiwan is coming out with their own original show called, “Dancing Diamond 52” (菱格世代DD52). This will be a female idol group competition featuring 104 female trainees vying for a spot in a girl group. Rainie Yang (楊丞琳) and Wilber Pan (潘瑋柏) will serve as mentors with Taiwanese artist, Chen Han-dian (陳漢典), serving as an assistant dance and vocal instructor. They attended the press conference on February 13 along with 52 trainees.

Wilber Pan Announces Marriage to Flight Attendant Girlfriend
The show will be having a global audition on February 22 calling for girls from ages 13-25 who likes to sing and dance to sign up. It is set to air in June on Youtube with a total of 13 episodes. The show will be providing 50 original songs, 50 dance choreographies, and 700 outfits for the trainees. The show runners are touting the show as “the largest idol star-making operation in history”. Each contestant is referred to as diamonds. Based on the application form, each contestant will be evaluated with values based on a deck of cards.

There will also be a guest mentor for each episode. Possible guest mentors publicly announced include: MC Hot Dog, MJ116 member, E.so, Jam Hsiao (蕭敬騰), Yoga Lin (林宥嘉), Aaron Yan (炎亞綸), EggPlantEgg, ØZI, 9m88, J.Sheon, Julia Wu (吳卓源), Chen Linong (陳立農), Patty Hou (侯佩岑), and others.

I feel like these idol producing shows are pointless in China. These girl groups and boy groups just end up doing absolutely nothing until their contract is over and everyone splits up with maybe one or two member from the group doing their own thing and becoming more famous than when they were in a group.
