After “Idol Producer 2” (青春有你) and “All For One” (以團之名), Tencent has announced season 2 of the Chinese version of “Produce 101” (创造101), a trainee survival reality show. The first season was focused on producing a female idol group, which eventually debuted as “Rocket Girls 101.” However, the second season will now be a male idol group survival reality show. The Chinese name for season 2 has also changed from “創造101” to “創造營2019,” which roughly translates to “Produce Camp 2019.” No word on whether the English name will stay the same.
Tencent created the official Weibo account for “Produce 101 2” today and uploaded a poster for the show, but didn’t provide any further details. Previously, it was announced Uyghur actress, Dilraba (迪丽热巴), would be headlining the show.
Once season 2 was announced, many netizens were upset with the name change. A lot of people thought the new name sounded corny and didn’t roll off the tongue well. One netizen even said the name sounded like it was going to the military.
