"Sexy Central" is the Hong Kong Version of "Sex and the City"

The cast of HMV’s web series, “Sexy Central” (性敢中環), attended the premiere in Central yesterday. The series stars Shiga Lin (連詩雅), Ava Yu (雨僑), Jeana Ho (何珮瑜), Joyce Cheng (鄭欣宜), and Kelly Chan (陳嘉莉). It airs today on the Hong Kong streaming platform, “hmvod” and iQiyi and will later air globally on Netflix for a limited run starting on July 19th. The series is said to be the Chinese version of “Sex and the City.”

Shiga Lin plays a psychologist who can cure other people’s problems, but her own. She runs into a lot of problems in her romantic life. She also says this series is very different from the movie”Lan Kwai Fong” (喜愛夜蒲). She reveals the story is really about the friendship between the five leads and the independence of modern women. The series actually doesn’t have a lot of scenes about the night life like one would expect.

In the series, Shiga Lin and Ava Yu will have a love triangle with Eric Suen (孫耀威) and eventually become enemies. Later on, she has a relationship with a younger man played by, Terry Zou (鄒文正). But in reality, Shiga Lin says she absolutely can’t accept dating a younger man. She expresses, “I’ve never tried it before. I don’t want to try it in the future either. My ideal boyfriend would be 6-10 years older. If I date a guy who is the same age as me, I feel like our pace wouldn’t be the same. Maybe because I am seasoned and a bit boring.”

As for Ava Yu’s character, she has an affinity with someone she meets online, but in the end, it doesn’t end up becoming a relationship. She mentioned that she and Jeana Ho previously went to night clubs in Lan Kwai Fong to experience the night life for the “Lan Kwai Fong” movie series. Ava Yu says, “It was an eye opener for me. I saw a lot of men and women getting it on passionately in very intimate positions. Maybe because I am older now and married. I will definitely not go to night clubs. I am most afraid of my voice being all raspy and can’t sing after hanging at the clubs.”
