After much speculation and rumors, Kristal Tin (田蕊妮) finally confirmed she is leaving TVB after 12 years. At a recent function, reporters asked whether she was leaving the company when she was absent from the 52nd TVB anniversary awards held on January 12. She responded, “In the past six months, everyone knows I’ve become a traveler, like I’m exploring the world. But I will be leaving TVB, but that’s not the reason why I didn’t attend the awards ceremony. It’s because I wasn’t in Hong Kong.”

Kristal Tin reveals she still has over a month left before she officially leaves TVB. She adds that she still has a very good relationship with the company. Kristal Tin also praised TVB saying, “I want to see what I can improve on, shock myself, see the outside world, but TVB is a really good platform.” She also clarifies she isn’t leaving her contract early and that she didn’t sign a per series contract as she isn’t someone to have a back up plan.

On rumors she is signing with Louis Koo’s company, she refused to comment. When reporters asked about her future plans, Kristal Tin revealed she doesn’t know yet, but did say, “There are some things that need to be confirmed first before talking about it.” On whether TVB had tried to keep her, Kristal Tin said, “We did discuss about it, it was very pleasant”.
Kristal Tin also denied she left the company over differences in political views. She got into a bit of hot water last summer when she seemingly made a post making fun of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, on Facebook. Afterwards, mainland Chinese netizens called for a boycott against Kristal Tin. However, Kristal Tin explained at the time that it was just her natural response to what she saw on TV and not related to any political stance. Kristal Tin’s husband is Chapman To, who has been very critical about Carrie Lam, her cabinet, and the police force.
TVB executive, Virginia Lok (樂易玲), expressed, “It was actually a very hard decision on both sides. She has always been an extremely good, extremely professional actor, but at this moment, feels like the company has no way to arrange even more developments for her. Sincerely thank her for supporting the company for so many years. Wish her success in everything. On whether they will be collaborating with Kristal Tin again, she said, “Let’s see if there is a chance…”
