It has been two weeks since “Youth With You 3” (青春有你 3) trainee, Wei Hongyu (魏宏宇), was accused of cheating on his ex-girlfriend, hooking up with girls, not repaying his debts, and getting girls drunk to have sex with him. Since the scandal broke, his ex-girlfriend, Li Jiarui (李佳睿), has spoken out twice since the rumors were circulating and provided evidence to back up her claims. Since Wei Hongyu’s company, BF Entertainment, made a statement on February 22 denying all the rumors, they haven’t addressed any of the allegations brought upon by Li Jiarui. The last time Li Jiarui posted was on February 28, demanding Wei Hongyu be withdrawn from the show, for his company to retract their statement, and have Wei Hongyu publicly apologize to her and his fans, or else she would expose him with more “concrete evidence”.
Unpaid Debts
On March 6, someone claiming to be Wei Hongyu’s mother wrote a lengthy post on Weibo addressing these allegations against him. His mother says that she has taught Wei Hongyu to be kind since he was a child. She recounted when he saw homeless people on the streets as a child, he would ask her for a bit of money to give to them. Wei Hongyu’s mother said he would rarely worry her and his father as he would always report the good things and not the bad. Wei Hongyu’s mother also revealed she has already contacted his friends and repaid all his debts. She also apologized to them for causing them so much trouble.
Wei Hongyu’s mother offered to pay one of Wei Hongyu’s debtors an additional 3,000 RMB for their troubles. Wei Hongyu’s mother paying 420 RMB more to one of Wei Hongyu’s debtors. The friend gave it back to her and wished for things to go smoothly for Wei Hongyu.
Apologizing to Li Jiarui
As for Wei Hongyu’s relationship with Li Jiarui, his mother claims they broke up and got back together many times, but stresses she is a very good girl. She explained that years after they broke up, Li Jiarui would take the initiative to warmly greet her when they encountered each other on the streets. Wei Hongyu’s mother also offered an apology to Li Jiarui, saying, “If there are areas where Hongyu hurt Jiarui in this relationship, I’ll apologize first to Jiarui on his behalf. Once I get into contact with Hongyu, I will teach him how to properly handle their relationship.”
Date Rape and Drugging Allegations
Lastly, Wei Hongyu’s mother spoke on the date rape and drugging allegations against Wei Hongyu. In the initial allegations, there was a screenshot of a chat conversation showing Wei Hongyu allegedly asking his friend for advice about getting a girl drunk to have sex with him. Fans claimed the screenshot was doctored, Li Jiarui later claimed these allegations were true and showed the chat was real in a live action video. Wei Hongyu’s mother said, “Regarding the false online comments about ‘date rape’, ‘drugging’, it has brought a lot of negative impact to Wei Hongyu’s career and has severely damaged his reputation. If these baseless slander and defamatory [allegations] continue on, as a mother, I will personally use my legal weapons to protect my son’s legal rights.”
These rumors and allegations don’t seem to have affected Wei Hongyu’s results on “Youth With You 3”. On the latest rankings as of March 6, Wei Hongyu maintained his 4th spot for the second week in a row.
