You might not have heard much about Stitch Yu (余思霆) before, but she’s starting to get exposure after first announcing she and fellow TVB actor, Brian Chu (朱敏瀚), were dating. As it turns out, her first series after winning the 2017 Miss Chinese International crown, was “As Time Goes By” (好日子), with her co-star and now boyfriend, Brian Chu.
The series was filmed almost two years ago, so Stitch Yu hasn’t had much exposure to the audience until now. She plays a Taiwanese exchange student, so she was able to speak in her native tongue, Mandarin. Looking back at the filming days, Stitch Yu recalls, “I didn’t have any acting experience at that time. In addition, my Cantonese wasn’t good either. After filming a scene, I wouldn’t even dare to watch the playback. The first day of filming, there were a lot of lines. I was so nervous, I was sweating. I made my partner NG a lot of times!”
Stitch Yu also reveals when she first came to Hong Kong, she didn’t know a lick of Cantonese. She said, “When I first came here, I didn’t dare to speak. Later, I realized I had to speak more, let people laugh at me so I can improve. A friend jokingly told me to find a Hong Kong boyfriend so my Cantonese would improve greatly.”
What she admires most about Brian Chu
When talking about Brian Chu, Stitch Yu says, “We only had one scene with us together. We weren’t very familiar with each other. I just thought he was kind of silly, very funny. We didn’t become friends until half a year til a year later. We had more interaction at a friend’s event and kept in contact.” On what she admires most about Brian Chu, she says, “He really likes to act. Even if we’ve been filming for over 20 hours straight, he is fine with it. I haven’t gotten to that stage yet. I would definitely complain about being tired.” Stitch Yu also reveals she looks for these three qualities in a significant other: “professionalism, filial piety, and sweetness.”
Idolizing Eliza Sam
On which senior artist she would most want to work with, Stitch Yu immediately responded, “Definitely Eliza Sam (岑麗香)! Our backgrounds are very similar. A lot of my friends from New York said I should view her as an example. About a year ago, I had a chance to practice dancing with Eliza. Afterwards, she even drove me home. I was overwhelmed and flattered at the moment. That’s when I started to idolize her.”
