Jackson Wang (王嘉爾) has been in back in his hometown Hong Kong the past few days ago. Aside from unveiling his wax statue at Madame Tussauds Hong Kong, he was also one of the guests at Sammi Cheng’s (鄭秀文) last concert on July 27. It seems Jackson Wang has been making the rounds and doing a little bit of promotion while he’s back home. Hong Kong artist, Bob Lam (林盛斌), had uploaded a picture of him and Jackson Wang together, on Instagram while they were shooting for Do Do Cheng’s (鄭裕玲) variety show, “Do Did Eat” (Do姐有問題3). It turns out the two have some history together.
Along with the post, he shared his affinity with Jackson Wang that dates back to 14 years ago. He said: “Fourteen years ago, there was a kid who called into my radio show. He hoped to become a singer when he grew up. So I honestly asked him, does your home have “rice”*, if so, then go. He thought I was talking about the rice we eat. So he said he did…today, we finally met. Jackson, seeing you succeed, I truly congratulate you. Continue to work hard, continue to add oil, GoGoGo.”
TVB also interviewed the two at the studio and Do Do Cheng revealed it was actually Jackson Wang that asked to be on the show and requested Bob Lam to guest on the same episode. This was also their first time meeting each other, but Jackson Wang said he was a big fan of Bob Lam’s old radio show and said Bob Lam’s words were the start of his dreams of becoming a singer.
*In Cantonese slang, the word for rice can also be used to describe when someone is rich.
