Vicki Zhao (赵薇) is one of four directors on the new variety show, “Everybody Stand By” (演员请就位). She was interviewed recently about actors getting plastic surgery. She expressed that a lot of people are now choosing to do minor cosmetic procedures. This has led to the decrease in faces with personalities.

According to Vicki Zhao, she says appearances are like double edged swords to actors. If they become too immersed into appearances, it becomes the rope that ties them down. They don’t realize they are handsome or beautiful. She emphasized actors should focus on their performance instead. She expressed, “If your focus is concentrated more on your appearance than your interest and understanding of your own performance, then don’t blame the audience for yelling at you saying you just look good, but can’t act.”

She clarifies that she isn’t especially against plastic surgery saying, “Plastic surgery isn’t a bad thing. If your appearance hurts your lifestyle, then plastic surgery is a good doctor, it will save your confidence, give you hope. But there are some very pretty and natural girls who get work done to look even more beautiful, then this doctor actually becomes a murderer. Sometimes I wish people wouldn’t emulate others too much where you end up looking like each other when they get work done.”
