Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯) is off to a great start in 2020. She got great reviews for her performance in “Forensic Heroes IV”, in which she replaced Jacqueline Wong. The series also reached 37.1 in ratings, a rarity for TVB series nowadays. Roxanne Tong, who has primarily been the second lead, finally got promoted to the female lead in a new TVB costume series, “一笑渡凡間”, based on the deity, “Ji Gong” (濟公), in Chinese folklore.
In an interview with Oriental Daily News, Roxanne Tong expressed this is her first time officially being the female lead. This role will be a departure from her regular happy go lucky roles. She will be portraying a steel faced bailiff. Roxanne Tong expressed, “I will be solving cases and have a romantic storyline. Ji Gong is a very iconic storyline. I like filming ancient dramas. A lot of people have always said I am suitable for ancient dramas. I have also been keeping fit for this role because I’ll have a lot of action scenes.” Roxanne Tong reveals she has been learning Jazz and K-Pop dance moves so that she can give a cooler performance this time.
Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) will be playing the titular character of “Ji Gong”. He expressed he’s very happy to portray “Ji Gong” and hopes to bring happiness to everyone with his version.” This will be his second time working with Roxanne Tong after the 2018 series, “Birth Of A Hero” (翻生武林). Edwin Siu said of Roxanne Tong, “She is a pretty good partner. She has her own style of humor. Hope this comedic series can bring out even more chemistry.”
As for Sammy Sum (沈震軒), this is his first series back at TVB after leaving the company in 2016. He was seen in ViuTV’s original series, “Sorina Fok” (好人好姐), and mostly had supporting roles when he was at TVB. He will be playing one of “Ji Gong’s” good brothers in the new series.
