Since last August, Ali Lee (李佳芯) was frozen by TVB due to her social media posts that were deemed to be in support of the Hong Kong protests by Chinese netizens. Despite her efforts to clear the air, the damage was done. Even though she was already “frozen” at the time, she was still filming “Amelia’s Rhapsody”. However, she has lost out on reprising her role in two sequels already. A few days ago, there were reports Ali Lee won’t be returning to film “Big White Duel 2” (白色強人2) in October.
She was at the TVB studios on March 18 to record “Cantopop At 50” (流行經典50年). When asked about the rumors of her character, “Kennis”, being written off from “Big White Duel 2”, she expressed, “I only found out about it reading the news. There are a lot of changes going on right now. I really don’t know. I have to wait for the company to give me notice.” On whether she has confirmed the rumors with TVB, Ali Lee says she hasn’t because she’s busy writing her book.
Reporters mentioned that since the fate of “Kennis” is unknown and if Ali Lee isn’t returning for the second series, then it basically means her character is dead. Ali Lee expressed, “She probably did die because I did ask the screenwriter at the time whether she died or not. The screenwriter said that if we want to have a good ending, she will probably die. So if the sequel doesn’t have “Kennis”, then I think it’s okay.”
After being written off from three series, “Who Wants a Baby? 2” (BB來了), “Legal Mavericks 2” and “Big White Duel 2”, many netizens felt she was still frozen by TVB. To these comments, Ali Lee laughingly said, “Well I am at TVB today. Is that considered being frozen? I don’t know. I don’t know how to tell. I won’t speculate so much. I am just going to do what’s in front of me right now.” As for when she will start filming again, Ali Lee said, “At the moment, I will have one job after I release my book this year. I will do what I have at hand first. As for dramas, I’ll have to wait for the company to arrange it.”
