TVB actress, Ali Lee (李佳芯), quickly shot to the top once she signed with TVB. In a few years time, she was already getting lead roles and filming anniversary series. Many people also felt she was very lucky for being able to win the TVB’s Best Actress Award” in 2018 in a matter of a few years. While Ali Lee might agree with this point, she reveals she had to put in a lot of hard work and suffered a lot of struggles to get to where she is today.
Ali Lee started out as a mode then turned to hosting and later an actor within these 10+ years. In an interview with Oriental Daily News, she recounts, “A lot of people in this industry has gone through it before. At that time, I just finished college and started working. I really had to ask a friend to transfer $11 (HKD) to my account in order to withdraw $100 from the bank. The first few years was quite a struggle. In this industry, you have to package and present yourself, but the salary isn’t high. I wouldn’t ask people to borrow money. I depended on credit cards to survive.”
Not enough money in account to withdraw
However, just when she started to make more money, she made the decision to leave her job as a Cable TV host to become an actor with TVB. Ali Lee admits she has a very impulsive personality and explains, “I had a big pay cut going to TVB. I also had to support my family, but I couldn’t even support myself with my salary at the time. There was a long period of time where I had to tap into my savings to supplement my expenses. I didn’t know how long I could withstand this.” Even with her struggles, Ali Lee said she wouldn’t ask her family for money.
Lack a sense of security
When talking about her character having a love triangle with Kenneth Ma (馬國明) and Natalie Tong (唐詩詠) in “Big White Duel” (白色強人), she says this has never happened to her in real life. Ali Lee reveals, “I’ve had secret crushes and love at first sight before, but it was when I was a kid. After finishing school, I’ve never initiated liking someone before because I lack a sense of security. I have to have confidence in myself, I have to know the other person really likes me, in order for me to let my heart out.”
Ali Lee, who has been dating ViuTV artist, Danny Chan (陳炳銓), for 5 years, says her boyfriend is a very sensitive person who also lacks a sense of security. She says, “We have a mutual understanding. Even though we don’t say it out loud, but we know our heart is there. He doesn’t really have much expression or say much in private, but he does have a lot of emotions inside. He is a lot like me in this aspect.”
