After Michael Lai’s (賴弘國) long essay about his “divorce” with Gillian Chung (鍾欣潼) that was apparently prematurely announced, according to EEG, he said he wouldn’t comment anything about their marriage anymore. Yet, there are news everyday about his responses to netizens about his relationships. He also decided to give a statement to the media outside his cosmetology practice on May 12, but stated it wasn’t a “press conference.”
Michael Lai prefaced his statement that this wasn’t a press conference, but wanted to speak out because he claims reporters were camping outside his practice. He wanted to protect his clients’ privacies and clear the air once and for all. Next, he changes his tone about the divorce and says, “Regarding Gillian and I separating, I’ve said I won’t comment further. I hope everyone gives us some space. This is a very regretful situation. I am also extremely sad.”
In Michael Lai’s IG post, he had originally said they were divorced, which prompted EEG to make a statement that they only signed a separation agreement. They also sent a legal notice “reminding” him to abide by the agreement by not revealing anymore details about the separation.
Michael Lai’s third point was regarding an internet celebrity’s claims about him cheating and hooking up with girls while being married to Gillian Chung. He said those rumors aren’t true and his lawyer had already sent a legal notice to the involved parties and that he “must sue them, sue them to death.”
For his fourth point, Michael Lai said there were rumors about him having a new flame already. He denied it and said, “I’m not in any mood to be in any new relationship right now. I am entirely focused and invested on work right now. As long as my patients are good, I’m good. As long as my clinic is good, I am good.” An internet celebrity by the name of “Jin Murmur” had referred to him as the “Bootleg Sunny Wang” and made the allegations that he likes to cheat and hook up. She claimed his good friends would help him cover it up and even said a lot of girls love him and he doesn’t want to reject them.
Michael Lai also said he respected all the hurtful comments that he endured for the last 2-3 years. However, he said he would be going after all the defamatory and slanderous allegations made about him. He said, “I must sue them. No matter how much money it costs, I will sue you to death.” Lastly, he hoped everyone would give them some space.
