Around midnight on August 8, Mat Yeung (楊明) was involved in a car accident. It’s reported his car lost control when making a sharp turn and crossed over in the opposite direction of traffic. One side of his car ended up crashing on a ramp. The police were alerted by other drivers who witnessed the scene.

When the police arrived at the scene of the crime, Mat Yeung said he was unwell. He’s suspected of a DUI as it was reported he smelled of alcohol all over his body. He wasn’t walking steadily either. Mat Yeung had to be carried by police officers onto the ambulance to be treated at the hospital. It’s reported Mat Yeung refused to take a breathalyzer test at the scene. Mat Yeung’s girlfriend, Lisa Ch’ng (莊思明), and her sister, Jacquelin Ch’ng (莊思敏), later arrived at the scene to understand the situation. After seeing Mat Yeung was on the ambulance en route to the hospital, Jacquelin Ch’ng drove Lisa Ch’ng away.

This wouldn’t be the first time Mat Yeung had a history of drunken behavior. Mat Yeung was already charged with a DUI in 2005. He was given a fine and a one year suspension of his license. In 2006, he kicked a security guard after being refused admission to a night club. He was sentenced with a bind over order. Then in 2007, he vandalized a convenience store after he was denied twice for using his home return permit to purchase goods while under the influence of alcohol. He was convicted on criminal charges for property damage and was sentenced to community service.

TVB executive, Catherine Tsang also known as “Sister Tsang”, had already given Mat Yeung a second chance despite all those offenses he committed. In 2011, he was nominated for “Most Improved Male Artist” at the 2011 TVB Anniversary Awards. In recent years, he was promoted to leading man status with starring roles in series such as “Airport Strikers” (機場特警), “My Commissioned Lover” (婚姻合伙人), and “On-lie Game” (迷網).
