TVB previously announced there would be overseas contestants joining the Miss Hong Kong 2020 pageant (2020香港小姐競選). There are a total of 18 contestants with the finale held on August 30. On August 7, the two overseas contestants, Lisa-Marie Tse (謝嘉怡) and Joyce Chong (張盈悅), finally met the press after completing their 14 day quarantine.
Lisa-Marie Tse is a 25 year old operating room nurse from Scotland and is mixed with a Hong Kong father and a Scottish mother. She graduated from the Edinburgh Napier University. During her online audition, the judges asked her to lose weight. She was nominated by Maria Cordero. It turns out Maria Cordero’s son is friends with Lisa-Marie Tse’s father. Her father accompanied her to Hong Kong to compete in the pageant, while her grandmother still lives there.
Joyce Chong is 22 years old and hails from Los Angeles. She is the shortest contestant standing at 159 cm. She graduated from The American Musical And Dramatic Academy (AMDA), which includes many famous alums such as Paul Rudd, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Robert Redford, and more. Joyce Chong says she is a homebody and likes to play video games. On netizens’ criticisms about her looks, Joyce Chong responded, “I do understand why they would say those things. I’ve been busy these past few days. I have a lot of pressure, skin is bad, my eyes and nose are all swollen.”
