Myolie Wu’s (胡杏兒) new ViuTV series, “Iron Ladies” (熟女強人), airs on September 28. In the series, Myolie Wu and Chu Pak Hong (朱栢康) portray a married couple where she is the breadwinner and he stays at home. Their relationship seems fine on the surface, but behind doors there are a lot of issues brewing.
When talking about the topic of “women dominating the outside domain, men dominating the home domain”, Myolie Wu expressed she has a deep understanding of this. She revealed when she and her then-boyfriend, Philip Lee, were dating, the media had portrayed them as “female superior, male inferior”. Myolie Wu revealed, “He would be unhappy, but I am very thankful to him for understanding. It was an obstacle during those years. It’s so hard to find your other half. I was afraid of scaring him off. You need a very strong partner with strong beliefs.” On how she consoled him, she said, “There is no way to console. You need him to be able to pass this juncture on his own.” On whether she is more at home nowadays, she said, “There’s no difference. It’s very flexible.”
In the series, their marriage is shattered when Chu Pak Hong’s character has an affair and the third party comes between their relationship. When asked if they’ve ever experienced a third party coming into their relationship, Myolie Wu said, “If I said no, then I’d be lying. Every person from when they’re young to now will have these experiences. But these experiences were painful to the heart and body. So it wouldn’t happen now. It happened when I was young. Right now I have no energy. Taking care of my kids is already very hard.”
When asked if her husband is very trustworthy of her even with all the temptations in this industry, she said, “Both parties do very well on this mater. He definitely gives enough sense of security to me. Me too. Like I wouldn’t go missing, so it’s very comforting.”
