Rising Chinese actor, Xu Kai (許凱), is starring in the Chinese movie remake of the iconic K-Drama, “Autumn Fairy Tale” (藍色生死戀). This is only making the news as it was probably filmed way before Xu Kai became an overnight sensation as “Fu Heng” (傅恆) in “Story of Yanxi Palace” (延禧攻略). The movie opens on Valentine’s Day, which is ironic given the sad storyline.
Xu Kai plays “Xu Tai” (許泰), a rich playboy, which should be Won Bin’s character in the original series. However, Xu Kai’s name is placed first in the movie poster, making many to believe he is the male lead. Zhao Lusi (赵露思), plays Song Hye Kyo’s character. Jiao Rui (焦睿) should be playing Song Seung Heun’s character. Meng Meiqi (孟美岐), a member of girl groups, “Cosmic Girls” and “Rocket Girls 101”, plays Han Chae Young’s character.
The movie’s tagline also follows the series: “I want to be a tree because trees can’t move. That way I won’t be separated from you anymore.” There is no trailer for the movie yet, but from the movie stills, it looks like a low budget web movie. They are just starting to market the movie and are trying to capitalize Xu Kai’s fame from “Yanxi.” Xu Kai actually revealed this movie was his first acting job. He said, “This is my debut performance. I was so fat and young looking. Please take care of me.”
The movie will also be going up against another remake, “Fall in Love at First Kiss”, a Chinese movie remake of the Taiwanese idol drama, “Playful Kiss.” This version stars Taiwanese actor, Talu Wang (王大陸).
