The queen of ancient costume dramas, Zhao Lusi (赵露思), is back with another series, “The Romance of Tiger and Rose” (传闻中的陈芊芊). Zhao Lusi plays “Chen Xiaoqian”, a 7th rate screenwriter who uses all her might and effort to write a female themed script that finally gets attention. The drama was set to start filming, but is halted after the male lead, played by Ding Yuxi (丁禹兮), questions the amount of romantic scenes in the script. She becomes determined to prove herself, however, she wakes up as the evil second female lead when she gets trapped in her script.
“Chen Xiaoqian” ends up being the third princess, “Chen Qianqian”, who is known to have a bad reputation, of a matriarchal country. According to her script, the “Third Princess” ends up being poisoned to death by the main lead of her script, “Han Shuo”, in the third episode. “Chen Xiaoqian” constantly changes the scenes and details to avoid dying in her scripted reality. She ends up attracting “Han Shuo”, who was betrothed to her and was supposed to poison her to death on their wedding night.
Zhao Lusi’s quirky charm here is very reminiscent of her previous series, especially her role as “Luo Feifei” in “Oh! My Emperor” (哦！我的皇帝陛下). So if you could get through both seasons of “Oh! My Emperor”, then this one will be definitely be an enjoyment.
