Choi Siwon had liked a Tweet from Korean newspaper, “The Chosun Ilbo”, which was linked to their article with the title, “21 Year Old Youth Shot by Hong Kong Police: I can die by a bullet, but beliefs can’t be killed.” A screenshot of him liking the Tweet was uploaded to Weibo and netizens immediately thought his action was in support of the Hong Kong protests.

Due to the backlash, Choi Siwon issued a statement on Weibo saying, “I saw there were some issues as a result of what happened on Twitter. For this behavior, I expressed my concerns with thoughts of hoping the violence and riots can come to an end soon. Because of this action, it has caused a lot of debate, making everyone disgusted and disappointed. I express my sincerest apologies to everyone.”
