Tang Wei (汤唯) makes her return to the small screen after 12 years with the series “Ming Dynasty” (大明风华), which airs on December 17. The series talks about the life of “Sun Ruowei” (孙若微), who escapes after her entire family is sentenced to death, and her eventual rise as “Empress Sun” during the Ming Dynasty.
Tang Wei portrays her character starting from 16 years old all the way to 70. It’s reported Tang Wei trained two months for her role and filmed for 8 months. Based on initial previews, netizens are not feeling Tang Wei’s appearance. Some netizens felt she wasn’t suitable for a costume drama, while many people felt it was an issue with her hairstyle and not with Tang Wei herself.
As for Lay Zhang (张艺兴), he plays the eldest royal son, “Zhu Qizhen” (朱祁镇) of the “Xuande Emperor” (played by Zhu Yawen) and “Empress Sun”. When the posters of his look in the series was shared, there were mixed reactions. Netizens left comments saying, “I really didn’t recognize him.”, “What kind of game is this?”, “Makes me want to give up on the series kind of standard”. However, there were also fans who said, “This is a historical figure. Fitting the character is most important.”, “Very handsome standards.”
This is the actual historical figure Lay Zhang is portraying in the series. So his make up and costume is quite accurate. Besides, we get to see clean cut Lay Zhang before he has the beard.
