Since the “CHUANG 2020” (创造营2020) finale took place on July 4, many people have shown outpouring support for Xu Yiyang (徐艺洋). On July 5, Xu Yiyang penned a long post about her feelings on being in a girl group and moving forward. Huang Zitao (黄子韬), who is Xu Yiyang’s boss, also penned a post cheering her on and to keep her motivated. It sounded like Huang Zitao was ready to develop Xu Yiyang’s career. So on July 6, Huang Zitao followed Xu Yiyang on Weibo, which is a first as he hasn’t followed anyone for a while now. In addition to that, Xu Yiyang created an Instagram account, which Huang Zitao promoted on his own account.
This all seemed normal until Huang Zitao created a post about following Xu Yiyang, saying, “For so many years, I’ve had 0 following. But from today onwards, I am no longer a 0, I am a 1.” He is referring to his account showing 0 following as he hasn’t followed anyone on Weibo for years. This is funny because in Chinese LGBTQ culture, a 0 represents a bottom while a 1 represents a top. Fans and netizens immediately left comments poking fun of Huang Zitao and made sexual innuendos about him being a top or a bottom.
One person even said, “A 1 never says they’re 1.” with one person responding to this comment, saying, “That’s right. People who usually say they’re 1, become 0 in the end.”
Some other comments range from: “What you said makes my imagination run wild.”, “He admitted he used to be a 0. Hahahaha”, “Now everyone knows he’s a 1.”, “So he used to be a 0.”, “You’re starting again. Tao ah, do you know there is ambiguity?”
Thankfully, Huang Zitao is a good sport. He left a comment in the post, saying, “You guys are a bit improper…I was so serious…” He also left a comment about him following more people, saying, “Now that there’s 1, then there will be 2, 3, 4. I am also looking forward to who the second person will be.”
